Violinist Yiannis Korbetis began his studies at the Municipal Conservatory of Kavala. At the age of 14, he obtained his diploma in violin with unanimous distinction, and at 16, he also received his advanced diploma with unanimous distinction.

From 1998 to 2003, he was a student of Stelios Kafantaris and concurrently studied with Ulf Hoelscher at the Karlsruhe University of Music from 1998 to 2006, from which he received the following degrees: Diploma in Orchestral Music (Orchester Musik, 2003, with a grade of 1*), Diploma in Artistic Education (Diplom “Künstlerische Ausbildung”, with a grade of 1*), and Diploma as a Soloist (Konzertexamen, 2006, with a grade of 1*).

For his studies, he received the financial award from the "Propontis" Foundation, the "G. A. Papaioannou" scholarship, the scholarship from the "Alexander Onassis" Public Benefit Foundation, and the "Alexandra Trianti" scholarship from the Athens Concert Hall. He has performed in Greece, the USA, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, and France with notable artists such as Ulf Hoelscher, Jean Sulem, Christian Euler, Martin Ostertag, and David Geringas, receiving excellent reviews. He has also recorded for Greek and German radio (SWR) and has won awards in national and international competitions.

As a soloist, he has collaborated with the Menuhin Academy Soloists, the State Symphony Orchestra of Crimea, the Neue Philharmonia Hungarica at the Ruhr Festival, Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, the Sofia Sinfonietta at the Sofia Salon des Arts NDK Festival, the State Orchestra of Bacau in Romania, the Alexandroupolis Chamber Orchestra, the Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra, Baden Baden Youth Orchestra, Ensemble Korrespondenzen Baden-Baden, Festival Orchester Euroclassic, Nürnberg Youth Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the 1st "G. A. Papaioannou" Festival.

In June 2010, he served as Artistic Director and Assistant Professor to Ulf Hoelscher at the "Summer Academy of Classical Music" organized in Asprovalta, and in recent years, he has taught at the international seminars "Music Week Lefkada", "International Music Days Brache", and at the "Festival International Workshop Festival Music Diaries."
​His students regularly distinguish themselves in international and national competitions or hold significant positions in orchestras.

From 2017 to 2024, he taught in the Department of Music Science and Art at the University of Macedonia, and since 2020, he has been a permanent professor of violin at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. Yiannis Korbetis plays on a 1703 "Antonio Maria Lavazza" violin.

O βιολονίστας Γιάννης Κορμπέτης ξεκίνησε τις σπουδές του στο Δημοτικό Ωδείο Καβάλας. Σε ηλικία 14 ετών πήρε το Πτυχίο στο βιολί με Άριστα παμψηφεί και σε ηλικία 16 ετών πήρε το Δίπλωμα, επίσης με Άριστα παμψηφεί. Το διάστημα 1998-2003 υπήρξε μαθητής του Στέλιου
Καφαντάρη και παράλληλα από το 1998 έως το 2006 σπούδασε με τον Ulf Hoelscher στην Ανώτατη Κρατική Μουσική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου της Καρσλρούης, από το οποίο έλαβε τα εξής διπλώματα: Δίπλωμα Ορχηστρικής Μουσικής (Orchester Musik, 2003, με βαθμό 1*),
Δίπλωμα Καλλιτεχνικής Εκπαίδευσης (Diplom “Künstlerische Ausbildung”, με βαθμό 1*) και Δίπλωμα Σολίστα (Konzertexamen, 2006, με βαθμό 1*). Για τις σπουδές του κέρδισε το χρηματικό βραβείο του Ιδρύματος «Προποντίς», την υποτροφία «Γ. Α. Παπαϊωάννου», την υποτροφία του Κοινωφελούς Ιδρύματος «Αλέξανδρος Ωνάσης» και την υποτροφία «Αλεξάνδρα Τριάντη» του Μεγάρου Μουσικής Αθηνών.

Έχει εμφανιστεί σε Ελλάδα, ΗΠΑ, Γερμανία, Ρωσία, Ελβετία, Αυστρία, Ιταλία, Ισπανία και Γαλλία με σημαντικούς καλλιτέχνες, όπως Ulf Hoelscher, Jean Sulem, Christian Euler, Martin Ostertag και David Geringas, αποσπώντας εξαιρετικές κριτικές από τον Τύπο. Επίσης, έχει ηχογραφήσει έργα για την ελληνική και τη γερμανική ραδιοφωνία (SWR) και έχει κερδίσει βραβεία σε εθνικούς και διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς.

Τον Ιούνιο του 2010 διετέλεσε Καλλιτεχνικός Διευθυντής και Βοηθός Καθηγητή του Ulf Hoelscher στην «Θερινή Ακαδημία Κλασσικής Μουσικής» που διοργανώθηκε στην Ασπροβάλτα, ενώ τα τελευταία χρόνια έχει διδάξει στα διεθνή σεμινάρια “Μουσική Εβδομάδα Λευκάδας” , “ International Music Days Brache” και στο ” Festival Music Diaries International Workshop Festival.”

Μαθητές του διακρίνονται τακτικά σε διεθνείς και εθνικούς διαγωνισμούς ή κατέχουνε σημαντικές θέσεις σε ορχήστρες.
Από το 2017 εώς το 2024 δίδασκε στο Τμήμα Μουσικής Επιστήμης και Τέχνης του Πανεπιστημίου Μακεδονίας και από το 2020 είναι μόνιμος καθηγητής βιολιού στο Κρατικό Ωδείο Θεσσαλονίκης.
