Lecture         Jorge Salgado Correia
" Music, Performance & Artistic Research"
Abstract: "The aim of this lecture is to present an explanatory model for artistic research capable of providing an alternative path for performers somehow lost in interpretation. Like Robert Musil’s ‘Man without qualities’ there are performers (un)consciously stuck in formalist and repetitive moral codes, in ethical drained experimentalism, or in engagements that neither contemplate the aesthetic dimension nor the professional requirements to face the contemporary artistic challenges."

Lecture Javier Negrin
"Goyescas in perspective: a performer´s approach to Granados´ further reworking of the piano suite in the years before the première of the opera Goyescas"
Granados was one of the greatest improvisers in history, and many of his piano works were conceived through it. Some of his improvisations have been kept in piano rolls, and it has also been documented that  he made different versions of his own piano music while performing in public. The later conversion of the piano suite in an Opera implied that he reworked even further some of the material within a new orchestral and vocal approach. This talk explores the connection between the two versions, taking on account Granados´ legacy in the form of his own different recordings of Goyescas, his letters, the above mentioned improvisations  and the arrangement of the piano part of the Opera.

Lecture  Michael Klinghoffer
Keynote presentation for everyone in the field of performance research:
Technical Routine-  A Way of  Reducing Performance Anxiety
This lecture examines some of the similarities and differences  between the way athletes and musicians are  trained physically and mentally.
The main point is the development of a steady technical routine the is well understood by the student and practiced over years.
The lecture is based on latest research done with athletes, on the work sport psychologist Don Greene has done with musicians at Juilliard and on Prof. Klinghoffer’s experience of over 30 years, part of it published in his book “Mr. Karr Would You Teach Me How to Drive a Double Bass” and seen on his YouTube Videos.

"Footsteps of
Romanticism in piano music of  Central America"
The incipient piano music of Central America had very strong influences of the European musical tendencies, since the entire region was a colony of Spain. Even when these countries became independent from Spain in 1821 (and in 1903 in the case of Panama), each one of them had different circumstances, social, political and geographical. Hence, the development of music and arts in general did not occur nor in a similar or simultaneous way in every of the six countries. Nevertheless, the influence of European Romantic aesthetic can be traced throughout their piano music, in compositions from the 19th century to the present. This recital offers a sample of piano pieces from all Central America countries in a program that shows this particular inspiration that has remain alive for over two hundred years.

DUO ASTER CANADA

Lecture Concert
Program  Presentation
Clio and Jonathan, two young musicians in love with French music, propose a time travel to Paris. Interpreting musical works from different times and styles, the duo is taking us in the heart of the French capital and makes us follow her evolution au fil du temps.
The Aster Duo is composed of two charismatic and talented musicians: Jonathan, a pianist and Clio, a saxophonist. The duo was formed shortly  after they met in Montreal. Both studied for several years in the most prestigious conservatories in Europe before they came to Montreal to widen their horizons, to be inspired and to develop as artists. A  beautiful and delicate sound is the elements that characterises their playing as they aim for a rich and refined sonority. Today Aster presents its first programme: Paris au fil du temps. (Paris through time), a concert in which the public is invited to take a journey through the cultural evolution of the French capital over the works of composers who had lived and studied there. With the fusion of the two-musician’s warm sound the public will  be able to plunge into the ambiance of romantic Paris, as well as after-war Paris and the Paris of today.
The audience, guided by images and texts of the  periods, will be immersed in the “City of Light “ for the evening and will see how external factors such as the Universal Exhibition, the war and even current immigration influenced the musical scene.
In addition, the duo has the ambition to show the saxophone in a different light. Often considered as an instrument dedicated to jazz and popular music, Aster hopes to show the public the beauty of the enveloping sonority of the classical saxophone.
